TITLE:             Telecommunications Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   1.         A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences, management information systems, or electronic engineering.

OR

High school diploma and three (3) years in telecommunications data processing (excluding data entry), networking or engineering; one (1) year must have been in the area of networking and/or telecommunications equipment and/or software.

 

Notes: College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience, provided such education includes two (2) courses in one (1) of the areas indicated above.

 

Vocational/Technical training in one of the areas described above can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience.

 

Completion of a vendor supplied program of study of four or more weeks in the area indicated can substitute for six months of the required experience.

POSITION GOAL:                 Ensure the school and district telecommunication/network system performs at optimum efficiency.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.                  Receives reports of trouble related to telecommunications and/or networking equipment and/or software.

2.                  Uses electronic testing equipment to maintain high quality diagnostics capability in order to solve telecommunications and/or networking equipment and/or software.

3.                  Maintains liaison with vendors used throughout the telecommunications and/or networking equipment and/or software with regard to proper operation, installation, and maintenance of the equipment and/or software.

4.                  Installs telecommunications and/or networking equipment and/or software.

5.                  Maintains current knowledge of telecommunications and/or networking equipment and/or software, modification and improvements, and makes recommendations in these areas.

6.                  Assists users with the installation and troubleshooting of problems occurring with telecommunications and/or networking equipment and/or software.

7.                  Provides leadership and vision to minimize telecommunication and/or network down time.

8.                  Supports administrators and school based technicians on matters dealing with telecommunications and/or networking.

9.                  Provides leadership, knowledge and expertise to supervised personnel as needed to build, support, and maintain a positive systemic relationship.

10.              Supports the district and schools in the implementation of technology plans.

11.              Oversees the day to day operation of BayNet telecommunications backbone.

12.              Coordinates/oversees the implementation of new hardware and/or software into BayNet.

13.              Monitors problems/resolutions to identify trends/bugs in hardware and/or software.

14.              Establishes guidelines/operation instructions to include preventative maintenance, disaster recovery, standardization, and daily operations of BayNet.

15.              Performs other related work and/or duties as assigned by the Director of BayNet Services.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:            Twelve months.  Paygrade as established by the School Board in current salary schedule.

 

EVALUATION:                                  Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by Director of BayNet, in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.
